With less than two weeks left in the regular season, every win is a key win for the Champion baseball team as they head down the stretch fighting for a playoff spot.

Champion visited Lehman on Tuesday and picked up the 4-1 victory to sweep the Lobos this year.

The Chargers are 7-6 in district and 13-9 overall.

They host Seguin Friday, 7 p.m., and are scheduled to play New Braunfels in a non-district game on Saturday.

Hits and runs were hard to come by in Tuesday’s defensive battle but the Chargers scored 2 runs in the second, one on a double by Connor Holtorf and the other on a sac fly by Aaron Basham for the early lead.

Lehman hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half at 2-1, but Quinn Grable answered for Champion in the top of the third with a solo shot of his own for the 3-1 lead.

It stayed that way until the top of the sixth when the Chargers pushed in another run on a Holtorf sac fly to score Jordan Ballin who reached on a double and moved to third on a ground out.

The Lobos only put one runner on in its final two at bats in the sixth and seventh.

Champion finished with 6 hits, including the solo homer by Grable, doubles from Ballin and Holtorf, and singles from Josh Bowman, Gage Goldberg and Andrew Frei.

Grable, Ballin, Frei and Holtorf all scored, while Grable and Basham drove in a run and Holtorf picked up 2 RBI.

Cooper Marshall picked up the win in seven innings of work. Marshall threw an efficient 83 pitches and gave up 4 hits, 1 run, no walks, while striking out 8.
