During the merry month of May, your library team is busy gearing up for summer programming. Those of you who think these programs are just for kids will be surprised that we feature many events designed specifically for adults.

Programs are built around this year’s theme, “Color Our World.” One of our favorite recurring summer programs for adults is our “Lattes at the Library” offering, where adults can come by at 10 a.m. Wednesdays for coffee and conversation. This year, San Antonio Art League President Lyn Belisle will facilitate two “Lattes at the Library” for us.

On Wednesday, June 11, Belisle will present “Beyond the Spectrum: The Hidden Language of Color,” where participants will discover how different hues often have hidden meanings and create their own mini artwork.

On Wednesday, June 25, she’ll be here for “Color and Scent: Awakening the Senses.” This hands-on workshop will explore the connection between color and scent.

Another “Lattes” program involves the history of rock painting. Attendees can paint their own rocks; this will be hosted by our own memory lab coordinator Sarah Habeeb on June 4.

On July 9, Texas Public Radio’s arts and culture reporter Jack Morgan will conduct a talk about his work with stained glass, while author Shon Lewis will discuss the colors of Africa on June 18, and Jill Johnstone will facilitate a program on flow art July 2.

For the remaining two programs, July 16 and 23, artist Jennifer McGee will prepare two different “make & take” crafts.

There are many more exciting summer programs planned for adults, teens and kids, so make sure to pick up a summer learning brochure, which should be out by the end of May.
