CELEBRATING THE ARTS G ART PAULA HORNER

HCCA PRESIDENT

We invite you to be a part of this exciting new chapter: the folks behind Boerne Art Waddle present the “Hill Country Art and Wine Festival.”

This new iteration of Boerne Art Waddle brings the Hill Country community together for a reimagined celebration of art and wine. Held during the Memorial Day weekend May 23-24, the Art and Wine Fest is an all-day Saturday, free-to-the-public art and wine festival. But first, from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, you are invited to sip, savor and celebrate the arts like a VIP.

The Friday evening ticketed “Preview Party and VIP Tent Access” offers wine tastings and a souvenir wine glass, hors d’oeuvres, a 6 p.m. art auction featuring authenticated and certified fine art, an opportunity to meet the festival artists, live demonstrations and a signed print from our featured artist, Thom Ricks.

The area is open and free to the public; however, the VIP tent will require the purchase of a ticket.

Two of the many auction items offered are Peter Max’s “Alamo,” mixed media on canvas; and Robert Wyland’s “Humpback & Baby,” watercolor.

Peter Max paintings are highly sought after for their vibrant color palettes, bold designs and the artist’s deep cultural significance of the 1960s, particularly, pop and psychedelic art. Born in Berlin, Germany, Max now lives in New York City.

Wyland is an American artist and conservationist best known for his pioneering efforts to create monumental artworks dedicated to marine life, predating today’s world of super graphics.

In 2018, the “Norwegian Bliss,” a 1,000-foot-long cruise ship, was launched, featuring Wyland’s trademark images of his life-sized whales. Born in Michigan, he lives in the Florida Keys, California and Hawaii.

Join us Saturday at our free Community Art and Wine Festival, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a day full of creativity, family fun and local flavor.

Boerne Main Plaza will be chock full of artist booths, children’s crafts and interactive art activities, live music from local performers, open poetry readings, community drumming circle -- open to all to listen or join in, wine booths and more.

This year’s featured artist is the Hill Country’s own Thom Ricks, who has been an artist/ illustrator his entire adult life.

Dedicated to the trade — and curious as well — he has traveled the world over, sketching and painting along the way. He captures the essence of his travels using architecture and vivid colors, translating the essence of these places onto canvas.

Serving as the art poster image is Rick’s painting, “The Spirit of Boerne,” acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, the image is of Boerne’s Main Plaza — the downtown square and gazebo from his perspective.

Thom Ricks, creator of “The Spirit of Boerne,” acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, will be the featured artist May 24 for the Hill Country Art & Wine Festival, presented by Boerne Art Waddle.
