Trio claim GVTC scholarships
Ethan Christianson, left, of Boerne High School, received a $15,000 scholarship from GVTC and The GVTC Foundation last month. Other GVTC scholarship recipients included Rylee Wunderlich of New Braunfels Canyon High School, and Gavin Fischer, of Davenport High School.

GVTC and The GVTC Foundation recently awarded more than $147,000 in scholarships to high school seniors across the GVTC service area.

Of the total amount, The GVTC Foundation contributed $47,500, honoring students whose academic achievements, leadership, technical skills and dedication to community service embody the organization’s core values.

The GVTC Foundation’s scholarship program, in partnership with the New Braunfels Community Foundation (NBCF), follows a fair and thorough selection process to identify students who exemplify the Foundation’s mission to uplift and empower.

The annual GVTC Foundation Scholarship Reception held last month celebrated the outstanding recipients of this year’s awards.

“We are incredibly proud to support these remarkable students as they pursue their educational goals,” said Josh Pettiette, President and CEO of GVTC. “Their ambition and character inspire us and demonstrate the powerful impact of investing in future leaders.”

Rylee Wunderlich, a senior at Canyon Lake High School, received the $25,000 Ritchie T. Sorrells Leadership Scholarship. Wunderlich has shown outstanding leadership in 4-H and FFA, serving as a Texas 4-H Council member, Texas 4-H Livestock ambassador, and Area VII FFA second vice president.

Her efforts include revitalizing the Comal County Special Hearts Livestock Show. She plans to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.

Boerne High School’s Ethan Christianson received the $15,000 Ola Armstrong Volunteer Scholarship. Christianson served as Boerne cross country team captain and Mu Alpha Theta president, and dedicates time each week to mentoring children at his church. He plans to study a field that combines his interests in math and media.

Gavin Fischer, a designer from Davenport High School in San Antonio, took home the $7,500 Career & Technical Education (CTE) Scholarship.

Fischer holds multiple Adobe certifications and has led branding projects for his school and district. He will attend Texas State University with the goal of starting a full-service advertising firm focused on creativity and inclusivity.

“These scholarships do more than relieve financial pressure; they create real pathways to opportunity,” said Sonia Aguillon, President of The GVTC Foundation. “We are honored to play a role in helping these young adults achieve their dreams.”
