Summer program comes to an end

We are thrilled at all the participation we witnessed with all our programming, visits and reading logs turned in.

All ages were invited to take part in the many programs we offered each of the eight weeks of the library’s “Color Our World” theme. Children and their families were treated to a foam party to round out the summer, and the crowds were wild with joy and laughter.

The adult department put on quite the show with a Festival of Colors event patterned after the Indian “Holi” festival. Everyone was encouraged to wear white clothes so that they could throw colorful powder at each other.

Annual Liars Contest

Join us at a special time and day for this year’s “Kendall County Liars Contest” on Sunday, August 10 at 2 p.m. in the library’s community room.

Listen to whoppers by some of the greatest storytellers from around Texas, as they compete to be named the “Best” liar in Kendall County. There is no fee to attend.

This year’s lineup includes Warren Holleman, Donna Christopher Ingham, Bernadette Nason, Vanessa Rogers, Larry Thompson, Gary Whitaker and Charles Williams.

Start of school year just around the corner

The library staff always looks forward to seeing our afterschool crowd that comes primarily from Boerne Middle School North, but we invite elementary and high-school students to take advantage as well.

We have plenty of study spaces as well as opportunities to enjoy after-school activities such as gaming and cookouts. On Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 4:15 p.m., teen services coordinator Leah Mayo is hosting a big welcome-back party for all the ‘tweens and teens who visit us.

They can join us for a chance to unwind, meet new people and see what the library has in store for them this school year. We’ll have music, snacks, games and creative stations where attendees can make buttons, try blackout poetry or just hang out with friends.

Water Conservation Series

Beginning Aug. 13, the library has teamed up with several partners to present a 13-week educational series on how to use and conserve our precious resource of water.

Water expert Larry Sunn, who is with Rain Bees, will lead the informative and comprehensive series. He and other experts will present information on a wide range of fascinating topics such as our aquifer system, building your own rainwater catchment system, native plants and drip irrigation. You can access the complete schedule on our website. You don’t have to attend all the events; pick and choose the ones that are relevant to you.

Challah bread program

On Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 10 a.m., we will be hosting a special program about the significance of Challah bread.

Mrs. Malkie Marrus, a veteran Judaic Studies educator, and her husband Rabbi Yashi of Chabad of Boerne will present a special program that will include the story behind Challah bread.

They will demonstrate how to braid the bread, and then each child will get a loaf of the uncooked bread served on an aluminum tray. They will braid it themselves with help from their grownups, with instructions on how to bake in their ovens at home. Space is limited to 50 people.
