Pat Taylor, a Texas Hill Country artist with a realistic style, primarily paints landscapes, animals and flowers in oils, occasionally incorporating watercolors.
Growing up, Pat developed a love and appreciation of nature and flowers — her favorite is the Texas Dogwood. She was inspired by her father’s artistic family, friends and neighbors.
In high school, her love of art blossomed. Later, she took design classes from the late Buddy Benz, a nationally known flower designer, who greatly encouraged her.
Later in life, Pat went on to take art classes and be mentored by the late Bill Scheidt at his studio in Pleasant Valley, as well as watercolor classes with Boerne artist Sidney Sinclair.
Pat often paints scenes from the Hill Country, such as rustic barns, sheep on Amman Road, and nearby river views. These beautiful surroundings, as well as those of Salt Lake City, Denver and Canton, Texas, served as subjects for many of Pat’s paintings, as she and her late husband, Ken, an airline pilot, moved across the country with their three girls Pat also traveled to Seattle and several other impressive places with her sister Marie, and brotherin- law Steve, that provided inspiring scenes to photograph for future paintings.
One of Pat’s daughters, Helen, followed in her footsteps and teaches art in the Dallas area.
Pat and her family settled in Boerne in the early 1980s, where she became an active member of the Boerne Art League, making many friends, attending special gatherings and sharing art with others.
Pat has fond memories of meeting at the Benedictine Sisters, which provided an opportunity for Boerne artists to create, share and develop painting skills together.
As Boerne Art League “Artist Of the Month” for August, you can view Pat’s artwork at the following locations this month: Jefferson Bank, Security State Bank, Texas Heritage Bank, Bank of America, and the Kronkosky Center.
