Boerne — The Boerne Independent School District announced that Viola Wilson Elementary School received five stars of distinction for school architecture.
The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) announced that Viola Wilson Elementary School is one of 43 projects that will be included in the 2025-26 Exhibit of School Architecture.
This exhibit of new and renovated Texas school facilities includes projects from 33 school districts, one college and one county department of education that were submitted by 19 architectural firms. Eligible projects are newly constructed or renovated public education facilities completed in the past five years and not previously submitted in this annual exhibit.
The TASA/TASB Exhibit of School Architecture in collaboration with the A4LE-Southern Region Foundation will showcase the 43 projects at txEDCON 2025, the TASA/TASB Convention being held Sept. 12-13 in Houston. The projects are also featured in the online exhibit at https://texasschoolarchitecture.
org/. Viola Wilson, part of the districts’ 2022 bond issue, meets the district’s growing needs on the westside of I-10. Constructed by Pfluger Architects, Inc., the building highlights the natural beauty of the region, incorporating beloved trees and other natural features into the campus’s design.
The design was awarded five stars — one of only a handful of designs to receive such high marks — and was recognized for excellence in design, value, wellness, planning and transformation categories.
Dr. Kristin Craft, Boerne ISD superintendent, said, “We are so proud of Viola Wilson Elementary School and are grateful for this honor. Viola Wilson is our first campus named for a teacher, a true testament to the character of Boerne and the important role our educators play in the growth of our community.
“The campus is beautiful, and we are delighted to start our second year in the space,” Craft added.
Lauren Sanders, Viola Wilson principal, joined the campus after serving as the assistant principal at Boerne High School from 2022-2025.
“The Viola Wilson community loves our campus so much. It’s incredible to be in a space that was created with the needs of elementary students and teachers in mind,” Sanders said. “From our gathering spaces to the incredible classrooms to our lovely performance spaces, it’s a joy for our students to get to learn, grow and play here.”
