Greyhounds resume district play at Harlandale on Friday

Boerne High is coming off a bye week and resumes district play Friday with a road trip to San Antonio to face Harlandale.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Harlandale Memorial Stadium.

The Greyhounds are fresh off one of their best regular- season wins in a while. On Sept. 26, the Greyhounds hosted Alamo Heights and won the game 37-35.

Boerne used a trick play, a Hail Mary pass at the buzzer and defensively came up with three interceptions in the game, with two of those picks coming in the fourth quarter.

BHS is 4-1 overall and 1-0 in district and has won four straight. They look to keep the momentum going against the Indians, which will go on bye after Friday’s contest with the Greyhounds.

BHS head coach Brett Sawyer said it was good to have a week off and get back to the basics.

“The main thing is we took a step back and focused more on us and didn’t worry about a game plan,” he said. “We worked on the little things that we’ve taken for granted that we needed to fix.”

Harlandale is 2-4 overall and 0-2 in district. The Indians have given up 42 points in their two district losses to Kerrville Tivy (42-34) and Alamo Heights (42-20).

Sawyer said the Indians always have a good game plan and won’t beat themselves.

“I like their schemes offensively, they’re good and they’re well coached,” he said. “They do a lot of really good things, and they don’t make a lot of mistakes. They have good kids that can make plays.”
