COMFORT – Comfort High hosted the District 5-3A XC Meet last Monday and both the Deer and Bobcats finished in the top three to advance to regionals.
The Comfort Deer were second and had the second- place individual finisher, while the Bobcat boys were third to punch their ticket to regionals and also had the top individual finisher in the race.
Regionals is set for Monday, Oct. 20, in Lubbock since Comfort is part of Region I. The girls run at 9 a.m., and the boys race at 9:30 a.m.

Varsity Boys
Comfort’s Jackson Dear led the field after he took first with a 17:47, while the Bobcats finished third with 72 points.
Ingram won this year’s district title with 33 points; Florence took second with 40, followed by Comfort (72) and Brady in fourth with 95 points. Llano and Blanco didn’t field full teams.
Behind Dear’s time of 17:47, his teammate Carlos Camacho placed 14th in 20:52, AJ Patton posted a 21:27 for 18th, Jose Castillo was one spot back in 19th with a 22:32 and Josiah Rucker finished 20th in 22:36.
This will be Dear’s fourth trip to regionals, and the senior is hoping to make his first trip to the 3A state meet.
Varsity Girls
All six teams in 5-3A competed, and the Comfort Deer were second with 60 points, behind Florence (51).
Llano came in third at 68 to edge out Blanco, which finished with a 69; Ingram placed fifth with 116 and Brady was sixth at 117.
Comfort’s Ella Thiele was second overall with a 13:13 in the two-mile event, Jordan Judkins had a top-10 finish after she was 10th in 14:43.2, Alondra Castro was one spot back in 11th after running a 14:43.5, Lexie Womble placed 15th in 14:55, Olivia Sanchez completed the course in 15:26 for 22nd, Harper Cole came in 29th in 16:40 and Gretchen Alford rounded out the team with at 31st with a 17:10.
Thiele is a two-time state qualifier for Comfort and is looking to make her third trip to the 3A state meet scheduled for Oct. 31 in Round Rock.
