Greyhound Brayden Scott wins individual 26-5A title

SEGUIN – Boerne High competed at Tuesday’s District 26-5A meet at Starcke Park in Seguin and had the individual champion in the boys varsity race.

BHS senior Brayden Scott was the fastest runner in the field after he won the boys varsity race with a time of 16:10.

Greyhounds coach Chris Carter said Scott has put in the work this year and it shows.

“Brayden went out and ran a great race to capture the individual title,” he said. “I’m not surprised by his success because he works so hard and has such high standards for himself.”

Scott’s performance helped the boys team advance to regionals set for Monday, Oct. 20, at Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.

The Lady Greyhounds didn’t advance out of district as a team but had one individual qualify for regionals after Presley Merkens turned in a top-10 performance. (The top 10 runners make it regardless of whether their team advances.)

Varsity Boys

Boerne High finished second in the final team standings with 54 points, just behind Boerne Champion, which won its 18th straight district title.

New Braunfels (90) also advanced to regionals as the third-place team. The rest of the field included Smithson Valley (99), Pieper (117), Kerrville Tivy (140) and Alamo Heights (163), while Wagner and Veterans Memorial did not have complete teams.

For the Greyhounds, Brayden Scott won this year’s individual district title with a first-place time of 16:10; Barrett Crofut came in fifth at 16:34 andAaron Garcia posted a 16:41 for seventh as the Greyhounds had three in the top seven.

Carsten Bain placed 21st in 17:25,Wiley Davis was two spots back in 23rd with a 17:41, Julian Wasel came in 28th after running a 17:56 and Chase Machicek was 33rd with an 18:05.

Varsity Girls

Smithson Valley won the girls team title (30), New Braunfels (58) and Boerne Champion (58) took the top three spots to advance to regionals.

Pieper (101), Boerne High (135), Alamo Heights (152), Kerrville Tivy (158), Wagner (223) and Veterans Memorial (272) rounded out the field.

Boerne’s Presley Merkens came in 10th in 19:33 to advance to regionals, Kelsey Farar was 18th in 20:27, Sutton Amerman placed 25th in 20:44, Ansley Schiller finished 40th in 22:04 and Abigail Jendrusch recorded a 22:22 for 42nd, Sophia King ran a 22:43 for 46th and Penelope Kirk rounded out the team after she was 54th with a time of 23:53.

JV races

The Boerne JV girls were fifth with 128 points and the BHS JV boys were sixth at 159 points to end their seasons.
