CELEBRATING THE ARTS
Please join us between 5 and 8 p.m. Nov. 8 to enjoy appetizers and drinks, and to shop for cards, original paintings and prints from three homegrown Texas artists.
In a 1929 Saturday Evening Post interview, Albert Einstein stated, “An artist is a tour guide, showing us the beauty of something that has captured his or her imagination.” In that spirit, Sue’s Art Studio, 101 Old Fredericksburg Road, is hosting a celebration of homegrown talent and creativity.
Let Susan Burk, Pauly Tamez and Morgan Hampton serve as our tour guides, showing the beauty of Texas landscapes, the richness of the culture, and the passionate love they share for their homes through their work.
Susan Burk is a graduate of the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and also a La Tour de Paix, Switzerland, which propelled her career in graphic design and packaging.
She spent nearly two decades art directing and illustrating for some of the top ad agencies in California. Her journey led her to open an art school in Boerne in 2007: Ms Sue’s Art Studio.
Her thriving business has inspired and trained thousands of young creative minds.
When Susan is not running her business, teaching an art class, gardening or spending time with her growing family, she paints. Her love for God’s creation, and her cultivated talents, all animate the soul of her painting.
Exploring Texas towns and finding desolate Texas roads with her husband in order to paint is her favorite pastime. She is also an avid gardener and her love of trees and flowers shine through in her work. This collection of 30 watercolors shows just how much Susan loves her life in Texas. Susan’s style is representational and aims to convey the atmosphere and beauty of the places she has visited. She wants the viewer to experience the morning sunlight, or enjoy the silence of a particular place when viewing a painting. Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God’s handwriting.”

Pauly Tamez is an abstract expressionist and impressionistic landscape painter whose work is an exploration of color, form and emotion.
Primarily working in oil paints, Tamez creates compositions that pulsate with energy and invite viewers into a world of boundless creativity. His watercolor studies serve as a foundation for larger oil paintings, allowing for a deep exploration of the Texas landscape that ultimately informs his abstract work.
Through the intentional use of contrasting and complementary colors, as well as fluid, organic shapes, he aims to evoke a range of emotions and inspire others to embrace their own creative spirit. Deeply influenced by the mentorship of renowned Texas landscape painters Bill Zaner and David Caton, Tamez continues to evolve his artistic practice while honoring the legacy of his mentors.
Pauly and his wife, Linda, and their two dogs, live in the Hill Country west of Boerne.
Morgan Hampton’s preferred mediums include pencil, pen and ink, waercolor and acrylic. His subject matter is primarily centered on ranch life, Hill Country communities, and coastal scenery.
His art has been collected by patrons throughout the southwest and western United States. He has held leadership positions in several artists’ associations. In addition to serving on the board of Hill Country Council for the Arts, Hampton is an active member of the Boerne Art League.
Hampton’s university education in architectural engineering and industrial design initially led to a position as an aerospace technical illustrator, where he began developing his realistic style of painting.
Later, his professional career allowed him the opportunity to experience the scenic beauty of the southwestern United States, further developing his interest in art, and continuing his rather unique drawing and painting style.
