Comfort Deer win last two, stay in hunt for district title

The Comfort High volleyball team closed out the first round of district play and opened the second round with a pair of wins last week, both on the road.

Last Tuesday, Comfort visited Brady and won in three sets, and on Friday, the Deer were at Blanco and also swept the Lady Panthers.

The Deer are 5-1 in district and 24-12 overall. CHS visited Llano Tuesday and then play at Ingram Friday with first place on the line in the 5-3A standings. Ingram is 6-0 in district and Comfort is 5-1, with their only loss coming to Ingram.

Vs. Blanco

Comfort swept Blanco in both their matches this year and won last Friday’s contest to begin second- round action, 25-15, 25-23, 25-14.

Tindall Ahrens had a big match and finished with 22 kills, while Jordan Judkins added 9 kills and Emily Hill had 6 kills.

Three different players dropped in an ace, Molly Gowan registered a block, Rubi Lozano finished with 16 digs, Ahrens added 12 digs, while Corrine Brown and Savana Womble both chipped in with 8 digs apiece.

Brown also tallied 34 assists in the match.

Vs. Brady

Comfort High closed out the first round of district volleyball play Tuesday with a road trip to Brady and swept the Lady Bulldogs.

The Deer took Tuesday’s contest, 25-14, 25-14, 25-15, and Tindall Ahrens paced the team with 20 kills, while Alexa Lozano had 6 kills.

Ahrens and Jordan Judkins both finished with 8 digs, Corrine Brown tallied 29 assists and Savana Womble had 8 assists.
