CELEBRATING THE ARTS

PAULA HORNER

HCCA PRESIDENT

The Hill Country Council for the Arts offers a full season of fall programming, something for every age and interest, from hands-on classes and workshops to outdoor movie nights and community traditions.

We are very excited about outdoor movie nights on the grounds of The Agri-Cultural Museum and Arts Center beginning October 18, at 8 p.m.

Known for its bold red lips, outrageous costumes and audience callbacks, this film has become a seasonal tradition worldwide. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets, blankets, costumes, and props for an interactive evening under the stars.

Concessions will be available, with proceeds supporting the Arts.

HCCArts will now be hosting a Monthly Movie Night every third Saturday of the month; next month’s Movie Night will take place Nov. 15 with the featured film to be announced soon.

In addition to the regular series, HCCArts will present an Independent Film Showcase on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 5:30-11 p.m. The evening will highlight the work of local and regional filmmakers, with vendor booths and opportunities for community members to take part in celebrating film as an art form.

Arts Calendar

* “Art Afterhours” is held Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m. at The AgriCultural Museum and Arts Center, 102 City Park Road in Boerne. Supplies are provided with fee, and class size is limited. Join us for a day of camaraderie and creativity.

Oct. 21: Just in time for Holidays: Marbleized ornaments. Participants will design one-of-a-kind ornaments using marbling techniques.

Each ornament is unique and perfect for gift-giving or personal keepsakes. Note: This class is being offered during daytime hours as well, 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday.

* Women and Power Tool series from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 9: “Building a Christmas tree.”

These classes have become a popular woman- led, power tools workshop series. The class teaches the safe use of power tools while, this week, building a festive wooden Christmas tree to take home. No prior experience is required.

* Positively pumpkins. October brings the pumpkin patch back to The AgriCultural Museum and Arts Center, sponsored by First United Methodist Church — open Friday through Sunday through Oct. 26, with free admission, games and photo opportunities, pumpkins for sale, of course.

* Stocking Stuffer Time: Giving thanks for our families, friends and community, Hill Country Council for the Arts launches its annual Stocking Stuffer project. HCCA partners with the Cibolo Creek Quilters Guild, whose members create Christmas stockings that we fill for community outreach. Additionally, we raise funds for classes and community art programs.
