Comfort Deer gets back to its winning ways

The Comfort High volleyball team got back to its winning ways after the Deer snapped a twomatch skid and defeated Florence Tuesday night.

Comfort swept the Lady Buffs for the second time this year and took Tuesday’s match, 25-13, 25-13, 25-11.

Jordan Judkins (3) gets ready to serve the ball for the Comfort volleyball team that played Florence on Tuesday.

Star photos by Kerry Barboza The Deer are 25-14 overall and 6-3 in district. Comfort closed out the regular season Friday at home against Brady. At 6-3 in district, Comfort had to win Friday’s match to maintain its grip on second place in the 5-3A standings. They were tied for second with Blanco at 6- 3, both behind district champ Ingram at 9-0.

If Comfort and Blanco remained tied after Friday, the Deer would be second since they swept Blanco this year. The only way the Panthers could finish ahead of Comfort is for them to win on Friday, while the Deer must lose.

Comfort will host Geneva on Tuesday in a non-district match to close out the regular season. The Deer are still waiting to see who they play in the first round of the playoffs.

In Tuesday’s match, Tindall Ahrens led the team with 9 kills, Rylie Zuniga added 5 kills, Jordan Judkins dropped in 6 aces, Ahrens and Corrine Brown came up with 1 block each, while Rubi Lozano came up with 7 digs and Brown tallied 26 assists.
