The cross-country teams from Comfort High raced at the Region I-3A meet in Lubbock on Monday and while neither team advanced to the upcoming state meet, the Bobcats did have one runner qualify as an individual.
Jackson Dear will represent Comfort in the 3A state meet in Round Rock at Old Settler’s Park on Friday, Oct. 31 after he finished 14th. The top 10 individuals not on an advancing team make it to state, while the top four teams qualify.
Varsity Boys
Comfort finished 24th in the final team standings with 613 points. Holliday (63), Crane (95), Presidio (122) and Tuscola Jim Ned (162) advanced to state.
For the Bobcats, Dear led the way after he was 14th in a time of 17:03. The senior was a four-time regional qualifier and punched his ticket to state for the first time.
Jose Castillo posted a 20:41 for 133rd, Carlos Camacho came in with a 22:42 for 151st, Andrew Patton finished at 23:00 with a 157th and Josiah Gonzales-Rucker was one spot back with a 23:14 for 158th.
Varsity Girls
Comfort finished 24th with 557 points. Holliday (54) made it a clean sweep after they won the girls race, while Wall (72), Tuscola Jim Ned (160) and Dalhart (175) all advanced to state.
Ella Thiele came in 23rd after running a time of 13:11 in the two-mile race. Thiele was looking for her third trip to the state meet but wasn’t able to finish in the top 10 to qualify as an individual like she did the last two years.
Alondra Castro recorded a 15:08 for 126th, Jordan Judkins, Harper Cole and Lexie Womble went 135-136-137 after Judkins ran a 15:26.00, Cole posted a 15:26.60 and Womble clocked in with a 15:28.
Olivia Sanchez completed the course in 15:32 for 139th and Gretchen Alford rounded out the team with a time of 17:24 for 156th.
