Geneva wins playoff opener, Chargers fall in opening round

One Kendall County volleyball team picked up a playoff win Thursday; another had their season come to an end, while a third squad played Friday evening.

Geneva School of Boerne went on the road and defeated St. Thomas Episcopal near Houston. Home court advantage didn’t help St. Thomas after the Eagles won in three sets to advance to the second round.

Boerne Champion faced Cedar Park Thursday in a rematch of last year’s playoff opener for the Chargers and Timberwolves.

Last year, Cedar Park defeated the Lady Chargers in three sets and advanced all the way to the state championship where they finished second in the state.

Thursday’s match at Buda Johnson resulted in the Timberwolves winning, but Champion took a set off them. The Chargers had a chance to take an early 1-0 lead but dropped the first set, 27-25.

Cedar Park took the second set, 25-17, for the 2-0 lead, but the Chargers avoided the sweep and won the third set, 26-24, to force a fourth game. From there, the Timberwolves closed it out with a 25-17 victory.

Champion ends its year at 26-8 and graduates four seniors.

Comfort High opened its playoff season Friday at Sonora against San Angelo Texas Leadership Charger Academy.
