Gloria 'Ma' Valdez Trevino

Sept. 15, 1940 - Oct. 24, 2025
Gloria 'Ma' Valdez Trevino

Gloria “Ma” Valdez Trevino, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025 in San Antonio.
Born on Sept. 15, 1940 in Leon Springs, Texas, Gloria was the daughter of Cipriano Valdez, Sr. and Isabel Perez Valdez. She grew up surrounded by a large and loving family and carried that spirit of devotion and care throughout her life.

Gloria graduated from John Marshall High School and later pursued a career in Nursing, becoming a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). Her dedication to helping others began early–she volunteered for the March of Dimes during the late 1960s as part of the Mother’s March campaign. Her professional journey led her to Santa Rosa Hospital, where she served with compassion for many years. Later, she continued her work at a nursing home specializing in Alzheimer’s care in San Antonio. After several years of service there, she retired to care for her beloved husband Simon.

Family was at the heart of everything Gloria did. She was a devoted mother to her sons, Joe S. Trevino, Jr., Robert Rene Trevino, and Richard Daniel Trevino. She was also survived by her siblings, Lina Cantu, Betty Apodaca, Margaret Lomas, and Ernest Valdez. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe S. Trevino;  her parents, Cipriano Valdez, Sr. and Isabel Perez Valdez; and her siblings, Ismael Valdez, Alejandro Valdez, Estela Trevino, Cipriano Valdez, Jr., Rosie Mendoza, Felice Jasso, Willie P. Valdez, Nancy Mendoza, and Ofelia Valdez.

Gloria found joy in life’s simple pleasures–watching her sons play baseball, softball, and football; cheering on her favorite teams–the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and San Antonio Spurs; enjoying fishing trips; hosting big family barbecues; playing games; and gathering with loved ones every Sunday. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and celebration–her potato salad and vanilla wafer banana pudding were legendary among those who knew her.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, wife, sister, and friend whose warmth touched generations.

May Gloria’s memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025 from 5-6:15 p.m. at Holt & Holt Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the compassionate care and expert direction of the staff of Holt & Holt Funeral Home of Boerne. To share words of comfort with the family, please visit www.holtfh.com.
