Boerne ISD volleyball players earn AVCA Best & Brightest Award

The American Volleyball Coaches Association recently announced that 1,489 high school student-athletes from around the country earned its Best & Brightest Award and seven of those players were from Boerne ISD.

Five Greyhounds and two Chargers made either the AVCA Best & Brightest first or second team.

Boerne High’s Holly Reeder, Mikinley Schmidt, Paige Stegall and Haley Wheeler were firstteam selections, while Greyhound Kynsie Jones landed on the second team.

Boerne Champion’s Cassidy Breuer and Taylor Fenton also made the second team.

All seven BISD selections are seniors, and all had to play at least 50 percent of their team’s sets during their senior season.

To be on the first team, a student- athlete must have a 3.8 unweighted GPA or at least a 4.3 weighted GPA.

Second-team members must have a 3.65 unweighted GPA or a weighted GPA of 4.15 or higher.

Of the 1,489 athletes listed, 903 were first team and 303 made the second team, while another 283 were third team.
