June 8, 1940 Oct. 30, 2025
Wilk Auiler passed away in the early morning hours of Oct. 30 at the age of 85 years old.
Wilk was born on June 8, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to California at the age of five.
He moved to San Antonio after serving in the Air Force for 4 years. He moved with his family from San Antonio to Boerne in 1975. He died after a long struggle with cancer.
Wilk was married to Faris Hierholzer. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Oct. 20. Wilk worked for IBM as a field and systems engineer for 35 years and as a systems engineer with USAA for 5 years.
Wilk loved woodworking and liked to play with his kids, grandkids and great grandkids. After all his years at IBM, he enjoyed helping people with their computers. He loved family gatherings and he loved to travel.
With his family, Wilk traveled to all 48 of the contiguous United States, Mexico and Canada. After retiring, he traveled with Faris to the Netherlands to visit his granddaughter, Hayley Van Dinther. Together, they also traveled to Alaska, the Caribbean and the Bahamas, England, Scotland and Europe.
Hayley remembered her grandfather as the “ground beneath my feet.”
“Every concert, every graduation or celebration of my life was marked by his presence, his support. If there was a way to make my life easier, happier, better in any way, he would look to provide it. Papa Wilk was a source of unending, unconditional love and support and that is a rare and wonderful thing that I am grateful to have had.”
His grandson Zach Garcia recalled Wilk as an “intelligent and exceptional man that was a constant role model for everything a man should be. His example of how to raise and support a family is something I strive for everyday. I would not be half of who I am without him.”
In addition to his wife, Wilk is survived by his two children, Debbie and Dan, his three grandchildren, Hayley, Zach Garcia and Maya Contreras, and his three great grandchildren, Iris Van Dinther, Owen and Harper Garcia. He is also survived by his two sisters, Helen Barrett and Diane Jackson. Wilk is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from both sides of the family.
