THE BOOKWORM

Huge congratulations are in order for our new artist in residence, Isaac Grigar, who has been chosen as the 2026 No Blank Canvas artist for the Patrick Heath Public Library.

Grigar is a sixth-generation Texan with a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he continues to inspire and uplift students as a lecturer and internship coordinator.

Isaac’s experience showcases a vibrant talent for mixed media works and plans to dive into researching Boerne and the Texas Hill Country’s equally vibrant past. We are very honored to have Issac be our 2026 “No Blank Canvas” artist. He will be an amazing gateway into this project and help create a bold future for Boerne art.

Be sure to tune in and see Isaac, the Heath Library and the Hill Country Council for the Arts share this new journey during 2026.

“I would like to pay homage to the people who first called this landscape home and speak to how their appearance shaped it for the next groups to inhabit it — making it what it is today,” Grigar said. “How, in their absence, a presence is still felt, and how in our many shapes, colors, tongues and faiths have come to build a better society together.”

We also want to take a moment to celebrate all the artists who applied to the first-ever No Blank Canvas program. Thank you all so much; you all made it very difficult to choose just one artist. We look forward to seeing any new or returning applicants when the application reopens in the fall of 2026.

The Bookshop Under the Windmill Need a quick gift that is perfect for your holiday reader? Look no further than the Bookshop under the Windmill located next door to the library. They not only have a fabulous selection of titles and genres, but they also carry gift cards for their shop just in case.

The bookshop is open Saturday, Nov. 29 — just in time for holiday shopping during Black Friday weekend. We might be a little biased at the library, but they are wonderful over there.
