Unicorns hold off Chargers, 41-31

SAN ANTONIO - New Braunfels held off Champion's second-half comeback and defeated the Chargers Friday at Alamo Stadium, 41-31.

Champion cut it to four points in the second half at 35-31 after a 21-7 spurt, but the Unicorns tallied a late touchdown to bump the lead back up to 10 points after they missed the extra point and it was 41-31 with 4:23 left.

The Chargers had the ball one more time but couldn't get the first down on 4th and 7 at their own 48-yard line.

New Braunfels took over with 2:37 left and was able to kill the clock with a couple of first downs despite the Chargers using all three of its timeouts and the two-minute timeout.

Champion ends its year at 9-4, while New Braunfels (11-2) advances to the regional finals and plays Smithson Valley next week in the Dome.

NOTES: In their first meeting during district play, the Unicorns also defeated the Chargers by 10 points, 27-17.
