Greyhounds beat Mules in classic, 56-49

SAN ANTONIO - Boerne High tallied a late touchdown to defeat Alamo Heights Friday in the Alamodome.

Greyhounds quarterback Grant Sweeney found Zach Freasier in the back of the end zone for a 21-yard TD pass with 10 seconds on the clock to put Boerne on top 54-49. The Greyhounds went for two and converted to make it 56-49.

Alamo Heights had a short return on the kickoff and then tried one last play that didn't work as time ran off the clock and Boerne celebrated the win.

Boerne (13-1) faces defending state champion Richmond Randle (14-0) Friday in the Alamodome.

Friday's game was marked by several outstanding efforts from players on both sides.

Sweeney rushed for four touchdowns and tossed three more to three different receivers - Eli Nikolas, Will. Traylor and the game-winner to Freasier.

Mules running back DK Garza rushed for 312 yards and five touchdowns.

The Mules pulled ahead with 1:55 after a trick play after Garza handed off to Alex Cross who threw to Landon Balldin with 1:55.

Sweeney then led them on a 65-yard, 10-play drive and capped it with the 21-yard TD strike to Freasier.

Halftime

Boerne was leading Alamo Heights at halftime, 34-28.

BHS quarterback Grant Sweeney has rushed for 106 yards at halftime scored three rushing touchdowns and thrown for another to Will Traylor.

Greyhound kicker Diego Jimenez has also booted two field goals of 29 and 20 yards.

Mules running back DK Garza has rushed for 200 yards and scored all four Alamo Heights' touchdowns.

Boerne had the ball six times in the first half and scored on all six possessions.

AH had the ball six times and scored TDs on four of them. On the other two possessions, Boerne blocked a punt and scored a TD on the short field and later came up with a fumble recovery and got a Jimenez FG right before the half.
