The Boerne Champion girls basketball team had a good start to district play Tuesday after the Lady Chargers went on the road to defeat Veterans Memorial, 50-34.
Champion begins league play at 1-0 and is 5-5 overall. They are entered in the Navarro tournament this weekend.
The Chargers were consistent offensively and hit double digits in all four quarters with 12, 15, 13 and 10 points, while Champion’s defense held the Lady Patriots to 4 points in the second and 5 in the fourth quarter.
Tuesday’s game was tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter, but Champion outscored Veterans Memorial in the second 15-4 and took a 27- 16 lead into halftime.
The teams matched points again with 13 points apiece in the third and it was 40-29 going into the fourth quarter where the Chargers doubled up the Patriots 10-5 to close it out.
Brielle Burdick netted 15 points, Sage Ramsey knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 13 points, Jenna Koepka hit two 3s and tallied 8 points, Lorena Barreiro added 7 points, Kam Edwards scored 3, while Saoirse Ray and Kylie Baum both chipped in with 2 points apiece.
