SAN ANTONIO — The George W. Kendall Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution is helping raise awareness and sponsorships to honor every veteran laid to rest at San Antonio National Cemetery and across the nation.

Local DAR members are working as part of National Wreaths Across America Day on Saturday, Dec. 13, partnering with Wreaths Across America to honor veterans with Christmas wreaths on their headstones.

Last year, Wreaths Across America ceremonies were held across the country at 4,909 locations, placing more than 3 million sponsored veterans’ wreaths for servicemembers laid to rest.

“Every $17 sponsorship made is a meaningful gift from a grateful American who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy,” said Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America. “We are so grateful to the good people of this wonderful community for participating in our mission: ‘Remember, Honor and Teach.’” Wreaths Across America is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992.

George Kendall DAR chapter members are looking for volunteers to help on Jan. 11, 2026, at the San Antonio National Cemetery, to pick up the wreaths to be recycled. That event begins at 10 a.m. at the cemetery.

The organization’s yearlong “Remember, Honor, Teach” mission is carried out in part by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond. Wreaths Across America’s stated goal is to place a live, balsam veteran’s wreath at the headstone of every American servicemember “to remember their sacrifice, honor their service, and teach the next generation about the value of freedom,” Worcester said.

All Wreaths Across America Day events are non- political/ religious events, open to all people.
