Lady Hounds vanquish Veterans Memorial, also play at Jack Frost hoops tournament

Boerne High picked up its first district win in girls basketball Tuesday on the road after the Lady Greyhounds defeated Veterans Memorial, 66-17.

BHS is 1-1 in district and 11-5 overall. They hosted Kerrville Tivy Friday and will be at home Tuesday against Smithson Valley.

The Lady Greyhounds sprinted out to a 20-2 lead in the first quarter and then outscored the Lady Patriots in the second stanza, 25-5, for the 45-7 halftime lead.

Boerne took the third quarter by a point, 11-10, and opened up a 56-17 advantage by the time the game went to the fourth quarter. Veterans Memorial didn’t score in the final period, and BHS dropped in 10 to close it out.

Addison Neal led the Greyhounds with 17 points, Melia Gonzalez netted 13 after she went 3 for 4 from the 3-point line, while Addison Saur scored 11 and Emery Reyes finished with 10 as four BHS players were in double figures.

Sutherlin Menn recorded 5, Shaylee Allen and Oleyvia Ramos both chipped in with 4 points and JT Hernandez hit for 2.

Hernandez and Reyes snagged 7 rebounds apiece, Addison Palluch and Ramos dished out 4 assists each and Hartlee Menn came up with 9 steals.

Jack Frost Tournament

Prior to Tuesday’s district game, the Boerne High girls played in the Jack Frost Tournament in Georgetown last weekend and finished second in the Silver Bracket.

BHS played five games and went 3-2 at the tourney and had freshman Sutherlin Menn named to the All-Tournament team.

At the tourney, BHS lost to Lake Highlands, 49-45, but bounced back to win the next three. They floored Floresville 65-25, gored Georgetown, 47-32, and then whipped the Westlake JV. One of the teams dropped out, and the Westlake JV stepped up and filled in.

Boerne closed out the event with a 52-38 loss to Killeen Chaparral.
