Greyhounds beat Veterans Memorial to open district play, also play at CCCA tourney

A strong fourth quarter by the Boerne High boys basketball team helped the Greyhounds overcome district foe Veterans Memorial Tuesday night in Boerne.

The Patriots were leading 30-25 at the end of the third quarter, but the Greyhounds outscored the Patriots in the final stanza, 21-10, on its way to a 46-40 victory.

Boerne improves to 8-6 overall but more importantly starts district play at 1-0. The Greyhounds played O’Connor Saturday in Helotes, 1:30 p.m., and then resume league action Tuesday at Smithson Valley.

Corpus Christi Tournament

Prior to Tuesday’s district contest vs. Veterans Memorial, the Greyhounds were entered in the Corpus Christi Coaches Association Tournament last weekend and posted a 2-3 mark.

The Greyhounds opened with a 53-50 win over Alvin and then edged Bellaire in double overtime, 66-64, to start 2-0 on the first day.

On Friday, BHS fell to College Park, 48-28, and lost to Corpus Christi Miller, 72-54. The Hounds returned the next day and lost to Corpus Christi Ray, 71-53.
