Geneva School of Boerne opened district play Tuesday night at home against Schertz John Paul II.

The Lady Eagles start district at 1-0 after they defeated the Lady Guardians, 50-34. Geneva is 3-10 overall and has won three straight. They host Jourdanton on Friday.

Geneva was up 13-5 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored JPII in the second, 15-14, for the 28-19 lead.

The Lady Eagles hit double digits in the third and fourth quarters and outscored the Guardians 10-6 and 12-9 in the final two stanzas.

Payton Boles had a strong game and finished with 19 points and knocked down three 3s, was 8 for 11 at the freethrow line and added a two-point bucket.

Sopris Oglesby netted 9 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Amelia Morgan scored 7 points, Carlyle Harden added 6, Lexi Oglesby chipped in with 5 and Reese Smith had 4.

Boles also snagged 7 rebounds, Smith came up with 5 steals and Sopris Oglesby came up with 5 steals.

Brentwood Christian Tournament The Geneva girls played at the Brentwood Christian Tournament last weekend and posted a 2-2 record.

Geneva opened with a 74-33 loss to Hyde Park and then fell to St. Andrew’s on the first day of the tourney, 48-31.

The Eagles returned on Friday and defeated Legacy Prep Christian Academy, 30-26, for its first win of the year. Geneva followed that up with a 38-29 victory over San Antonio Christian.
