Geneva girls team falls to Squaws

After winning their district opener against Schertz John Paul II last week, the Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team hosted visiting Jourdanton in a non-district game last Friday night.

The Squaws captured the win over the Lady Eagles, 66-27, and dropped Geneva to 3-11 overall and snapped their three-game win streak.

Geneva was home Tuesday against New Braunfels Christian Academy and had a 3 p.m. tip because of final exams. The Eagles visit Antonian Friday for a 7 p.m. contest.

In Friday’s game, Jourdanton was up 26-8 at the end of the first quarter and then outscored Geneva in the second period, 18-6, for the 44-14 halftime lead.

The Squaws doubled up the Eagles in the third quarter, 16-8, and then outscored Geneva in the final stanza by a point, 6-5.

Payton Boles led Geneva in scoring and was the only Eagles player in double figures after scoring 10 points behind three 3-pointers. Amelia Morgan and Sopris Oglesby both netted 7, while Reese Smith tallied 3 points as only four players scored for the home team.

Oglesby collected 10 rebounds, Boles dished out 2 assists and came up with a steal, while Smith also had a steal.
