Noa Sanchez helped the Boerne High boys team complete a comeback against Alamo Heights and defeat the Mules last Tuesday in San Antonio, 56-54.
BHS trailed 51-39 when the fourth quarter started but rallied and outscored Alamo Heights in the final period, 17-3.
Sanchez hit a bucket with just over a second left in the game to break the tie and basically secured the win for the Greyhounds.
Boerne improved to 3-1 in district (10-8 overall) and is off Friday. They return to district play on Jan. 6 against Pieper and helped to co-host the Boerne ISD Tournament on Monday and Tuesday. For results of the tourney, see this weekend’s Boerne Star.
After it was tied 13-13 to end the opening period, the Mules outscored the Hounds in the second 20-11 and took a 33-24 lead into halftime.
AH won the third quarter 18-15 and opened up a 51-39 lead as the game went to the fourth quarter, but the Mules’ offense stalled in the final stanza and they only tallied three points in the final period, while the Hounds finished with 17 points.
Alamo Heights didn’t make a single basket in the fourth quarter as Mules’ standout running back DK Garza recorded two of their three points at the free-throw line, while Jack Brewer made the other free throw to account for all three of their points in the period.
Parker Ballenger heated up in the fourth quarter for the Hounds and dropped in a pair of 3-pointers, while Sanchez tallied nine in the period and finished with 27 in the game.
Ballenger and Slade Salinas added 8 points apiece, Julien Hartman tallied 11, while Jay Aldridge and Bo Pape chipped in with 2 points apiece.
