It was raining 3s during last Tuesday’s district game between Boerne Champion and Pieper.

The Chargers hit 16 3s and the Warriors drained 11 of them for 27 combined, but it seemed that Pieper just couldn’t miss from long range as they hit more timely shots and went on to defeat Champion, 74-59.

Champion drops to 1-2 in district and is 10-7 overall. They will next co-host the Boerne ISD Tournament Dec. 29-30. The Chargers resume district play on Jan. 2 at New Braunfels.

Pieper took a one-point lead into halftime at 33-32 but the Warriors came out firing as Peter Golsch drained four straight 3s to start the third quarter.

Golsch’s outside shooting helped Pieper go on a 12-5 run and open up a 45-37 lead with 4:50 on the clock.

Reid Reddy, Nik Goergelos and Gavin Peck all answered with 3s for the Chargers, but the Warriors matched those 9 points with three 2-point buckets and another 3 and took an 8-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Once the final stanza began, Peck nailed another 3 and the lead was down to five points at 54-49, but Champion went on a three-minute drought and didn’t score for 3:17, while the Warriors went on a 9-0 spurt for the 63-49 lead with 4:46 left to basically put the game out of reach.

Georgelos hit another 3 and the Pieper advantage was down to 11, but the Warriors went into a stall and forced the Chargers to start fouling.

Pieper went to the freethrow line 14 times in the final 1:52 and made enough – nine free throws – including their last four to keep a double-digit lead.

Golsch hit six 3s and finished with 20 points for the Warriors and Sam Medina added three 3s in the first quarter as the duo combined for nine of Pieper’s 3s.

Peck hit three 3s and finished with 11 points, Travis Clark made four 3s and scored 12 in the game, Ryan Gallardo made one 3, Reddy connected on four 3s and scored 14 in the contest, while Georgelos sunk four 3s and tallied 15 points in the game.
