Lady Chargers fall to Lady Warriors in district contest

The Boerne Champion girls basketball squad couldn’t get its offense going during last week’s district contest against Pieper.

Champion only scored one point in the opening quarter and only managed 19 points in the game as they fell to the Warriors, 43-19.

The Lady Chargers slipped to 2-3 in district (9-11 overall) and helped to co-host the Boerne ISD tournament held Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Champion hosts New Braunfels Friday as they continue district action.

Kam Edwards scored the team’s only point in the opening period after she made a free throw, and the Chargers fell behind 10-1.

Pieper won the second quarter, 11-4, and took a 21-5 lead into halftime.

Champion had its best scoring stanza of the night in the third and tallied 9 points but was still outscored 11-9 as Pieper carried a 32-14 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Chargers closed out the game by scoring 5 points in the final stanza, while Pieper was consistent and netted 11 to finish the game with 10, 11, 11 and 11 points over the four quarters.

Jenna Koepke led the Chargers with 7 points, Sage Ramsey hit a couple of 3-pointers in the second half and tallied 6 points, while Saoirse Ray and Edwards both netted 3 points to round out the scoring.
