Boerne High picked up three wins at the Boerne ISD Holiday Basketball Tournament held Monday and Tuesday.
The BHS boys played four games and went 3-1 at the event to stand at 13-9 overall. The Greyhounds were off Friday and host Pieper Tuesday as they resume district play.
At the tourney, Boerne opened up with Roosevelt and roughed up the Roughriders, 67-57.
Later that day, BHS suffered its only loss to El Paso Burgess, 62-60, on Monday night.
BHS returned to action Tuesday and soared past the Pleasanton Eagles, 59-42, before closing it out with a one-point victory over Corpus Christi Ray.
It’s the second time they’ve played Ray this year and Tuesday’s victory avenged an earlier loss to the Texans.
Boerne was trailing by 5 points late, but Slade Salinas hit a 3 for the Hounds to cut the lead to two points. Salinas was fouled on a 3-pointer on their next trip down the court and made two free throws to tie it up.
Ray made a free throw with time winding down for a 55-54 lead, but Julien Hartman closed it out with a put-back bucket with 2.7 seconds left for the 56-55 lead, which held until the end.
