The Champion girls pulled off the upset of the Boerne ISD tournament after they knocked off S.A. LEE on the second day of the event.

Tuesday’s win against the Lady Volunteers ended being their only win after the Lady Chargers finished out the tourney at 1-3.

Champion is 10-14 overall and resumed district play Friday at home against New Braunfels. They visit Wagner on Tuesday.

On the first day of the tourney, the Lady Chargers fell to S.A. Johnson, 67-41.

Later in the day, Champion was tripped up by Katy Taylor, 53-29.

The Lady Chargers defeated LEE on Tuesday morning, 48-45. The Volunteers entered the game with an impressive 17-3 record.

Chargers coach Jason Sanders called it a “big win” since they were shorthanded going into the game.

Champion almost picked up another win but dropped a close one to Medina Valley 29-28 after a buzzer beater by the Lady Panthers went in.

The Chargers were trailing 27-25, but a 3-pointer by Jordyn Davis put Champion on top, 28-27. Medina Valley still had 8.8 seconds to work with and managed to get off a shot that went in with less than a second.

It was the only bucket of the game for the Panthers player that made the shot on a short jumper in the paint.

Champion still had 0.60 seconds on the clock and managed to get the ball to halfcourt but didn’t have a good look or get off a good shot.
