The Boerne Champion boys basketball team picked up a district win Tuesday night at home to stay in the thick of the 26-5A race.
Champion defeated Wagner 52-47 and is 3-2 in district. The Chargers (16-7 overall) are tied with Boerne High and Alamo Heights for fourth at 3-2.
The Chargers looked to earn another district victory Friday at Kerrville Tivy. They are on the road Tuesday to face first-place Veterans Memorial (4-1).
Behind the Patriots in the standings are New Braunfels and Pieper, both at 4-2 as the top six teams in 26-5A are separated by one win as of Tuesday, while Kerrville is in the mix at 2-3.
The Chargers were leading Tuesday’s game at halftime, 25-17, and pretty much traded baskets with the T-Birds in the second half.
Wagner dropped in 30 over the final two quarters, while Champion netted 27 to keep pace.
The Charg e r s knocked down nine 3-pointers in the game and were led by Gavin Peck, who drained three 3s and finished with 20 points, while Travis Clark hit four 3s for 12 points.
Nicholas Plummer added 6 points and Nik Georgelos scored 5, while Ryan Gallardo, Reid Reddy and Will Kliesing all chipped in with 3 points.
Clark and Georgelos both collected 4 rebounds and Georgelos distributed 7 assists.
