A late basket in overtime by the Boerne High girls basketball team lifted the Lady Greyhounds past Pieper Tuesday night on the road.
Boerne's Hartlee Menn rebounded and went back up with a shot that dropped in to give the Lady Greyhounds the lead with less than two seconds in the game.
The clock was running, and Pieper wasn’t able to get the ball in play before the final buzzer sounded, giving Boerne the 42-41 victory.
It was a big win for the Lady Greyhounds and improves their record to 6-1 in district and 19-6 overall. BHS was home Friday to close out the first round of district against New Braunfels. They begin the second round on Tuesday by hosting No. 1 stateranked Wagner.
In Tuesday’s contest, Boerne was up 15-11 at the end of one and outscored the Lady Warriors in the second period, 10-7, for the 25-18 lead at halftime.
The Lady Hounds slowed down in the second half and only managed 5 points in the third and fourth stanzas, while Pieper knocked in 9 and 8 to outscore the Lady Hounds 17-10 to send it to overtime tied at 35-35.
It was back and forth in the extra period, and Pieper held a 41-40 advantage. Boerne took a shot that missed, but Menn rebounded, and her putback ended up being the game winner.
Menn had a strong game and finished with 11 points, while Addison Saur tallied 12 points. Sutherlin Menn contributed with 8 points, Melia Gonzalez added 6 and Addison Palluch chipped in with 5 points as only five Lady Greyhounds scored in the game.
Saur grabbed 7 rebounds, Sutherlin Menn dished out 4 assists and Gonzalez came up with 4 steals.
