Just a few games into 26-5A play and it seems that all the boys basketball teams in 26-5A can beat the other on any given night.

On Tuesday, the Boerne High boys hosted Pieper and fell to the Warriors, 69-60. That drops the Greyhounds (13-10) to 3-2 in district, along with Champion and Alamo Heights which are all tied for fourth at 3-2.

Of those three teams, Boerne beat Alamo Heights, Alamo Heights beat Champion and Champion defeated the Greyhounds, so no one has the headto- head advantage at this point.

Ahead of those three teams is Veterans Memorial at 4-1, along with New Braunfels and Pieper at 4-2. Behind all the six teams listed above is Kerrville Tivy at 2-3, so seven of the nine teams in 26-5A are within two wins of each other as they approach the end of the first round of district.

The Greyhounds played at New Braunfels Friday and visit Wagner on Tuesday.

When halftime rolled around in Tuesday’s game, the Greyhounds were behind by 20 points against the Warriors, 44-24.

BHS played better in the second half as Coach Kimble McHone shuffled his lineup, and the Greyhounds outscored the Warriors over the final two quarters, 36-25, but the 20-point deficit proved to be too much to overcome.

Boerne cut it to 10 points on a couple of occasions in the fourth quarter, once after a 3-pointer by Noa Sanchez. A Sanchez free throw late in the game trimmed the lead to 10 points again, but the closest they could get after that was the final margin of nine points, 69-60.

Sanchez played a solid game and finished with 24 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter. Jay Aldridge added 9 points, Ty Reynolds and Julien Hartman scored 7 points apiece, Owen Graban had 4 points, Slade Salinas made three free throws, while Bo Pape, Parker Ballenger and Leo North all hit for 2 points.
