THE BOOKWORM

New look in the lobby

We know we’ve made various changes to the lobby in the last several months, and we certainly appreciate your patience. There’s still a bit more to come, however.

In January we plan to trade out our current circulation desk with a newer, more ergonomic space for both patrons and staff. While it will generally be in the same footprint, the look will be quite a bit different.

As with most projects, we’ll be a little messy as we’re working on it, but then it’ll be bright and shiny with better functionality. Please stay tuned.

Wellness in the New Year

Many of us ponder how we can be just a bit better to ourselves and others as the new year arrives. One way to help maintain your health and wellness is to join us for our regular programming.

Each Friday at 10 a.m., the library hosts a Tai Chi session; on the first Friday of each month at 6 p.m., we offer a relaxing yoga session; and on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m., participants can enjoy soothing sound meditation.

All these classes are free and open to the public, and no registration is required.

New books to read

All our adult discussion groups have come up with their new lists for our 2026 meetings. We are in the process of listing all the new titles on our website, but in the meantime, you can drop by and pick up a hard copy of the discussion lists you may be interested in.

People can enjoy poetry, mysteries, literary fiction, nonfiction and romantasy. Check our web calendar at boernelibrary.org for more information about each group. They are all free and open to the public.

Bookmobile on the move

Our outreach staff have already used the library’s new bookmobile to deliver items to homebound patrons, but our first official event will take place Tuesday, Jan. 27, at The Center at Kronkosky, 17 Old San Antonio Road.

People will be able to check out materials, sign up for library cards, learn more about the library and discover all the cool things the bookmobile has to offer. You do not have to be a member of The Center in order to use the bookmobile.

Cheers to Kristen

Our own Kristen Farmer has received her master’s degree in library and information science from Louisiana State University. We are so proud of her!

Our library now has a large contingent of professional librarians on staff with nine employees having completed their master’s programs. We’re incredibly happy to add Kristen to the list.

Library closures

The library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We will reopen on Tuesday at 9 a.m. Keep in mind that you can still conduct much of your library business either through our website or mobile app.
