The Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team returned to the court last Tuesday after a week off and continued district play at Castle Hills.
It was back and forth until the very end between the two Eagles squads, but in the end, it was Castle Hills that recorded the 44-42 victory.
Geneva drops to 6-17 overall and 2-3 in district. The Eagles were at Schertz John Paul II Friday and host Holy Cross on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday’s contest literally came down to the very end as the Geneva Eagles took a shot at the buzzer that would have tied it, but didn’t drop in.
Castle Hills was up by four points with about a minute left. The Geneva defense came up with a stop and drew a foul. Lexi Oglesby went to the free-throw line and sank both to cut the lead to two points, 44-42.
Geneva fouled and sent a Castle Hills player to the line and she missed both to keep the lead at two points.
After a timeout with six seconds on the clock, Geneva took a shot and missed. An offensive rebound led to another attempt that was off, and Castle Hills escaped with a win.
Payton Boles led Geneva with 11 points, while Sopris Oglesby and Reese Smith both scored 10. Amelia Morgan netted 6, Carlyle Harden chipped in with 3 and Lexi Oglesby hit for 2.
Sopris Oglesby also grabbed 8 rebounds, came up with 6 steals and dished out 2 assists, while Harden also recorded 2 assists.
Geneva boys
The Geneva boys were also at Castle Hills on Tuesday and were defeated by the Eagles from San Antonio, 69-56.
Geneva is 8-12 overall and is 1-4 in district. The Eagles were at Schertz John Paul II Friday and will host Holy Cross on Tuesday to close out the first round. For more on the Eagles, check the Star.
