Holy Cross pulls away from Eagles with strong second half
Geneva’s Bryce Hanover (14) goes around a screen by Hudson Bibb (12) during Tuesday’s district game in Boerne.

Holy Cross brought a perfect district record into Tuesday’s district basketball game against the Geneva School of Boerne boys team and while the Eagles hung with the first-place Knights for a bit, the San Antonio school just had too much firepower.

Geneva bowed to the Knights, 64-52, and slipped to 1-6 in district and 8-14 overall. The Eagles were at New Braunfels Christian Academy Friday.

In Tuesday’s contest, the Eagles were leading for most of the first quarter until Holy Cross pulled ahead 14-12 with less than two minutes left in the opening stanza.

Geneva managed to tie it at 17-all, but the Knights scored the next five points for the 22-17 lead and from there carried a 29-21 lead into halftime.

Holy Cross knocked down five 3-pointers in the third and opened up a 20-point advantage at 48-28 with 2:36 remaining in the stanza.

The Eagles fought back in the fourth quarter and put a dent in the lead but could never get below single digits as the Knights held on for the 12-point victory.

Caleb Quitadamo led the Eagles with 18 points, Bryce Hanover tallied 13, Harlan Mangum and Reid Aderholt netted 6 points each, Tucker Hardin had 4 points, Noah Brunsvold chipped in with 3 points and Hudson Bibb added 2.
