Electric firm: System performs as expected during ice storm

DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas — Pedernales Electric Cooperative officials said its system continues to perform well following the weekend’s winter weather.

“We want to thank our lineworkers, who have been working around the clock in challenging weather conditions, to keep the power on for our members,” said Nathan Fulmer, PEC chief operations officer of distribution. “We’re proud of our crews and the planning and response leading up to and through this event.”

As crews continue to work in cold and hazardous conditions, PEC said through a press release that it encourages members and the public to exercise caution on the road.

“If you see PEC crews working, remember to move over and slow down,” the release stated. Under Texas’ “Move Over, Slow Down” law, drivers must move out of the lane closest to the utility vehicle when possible, or slow down to 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit.

Freezing temperatures were expected to hold steady across much of the Texas Hill Country through most evenings this week. Most of PEC’s service area experienced below freezing temperatures Monday and Tuesday.

PEC said members should report outages immediately by texting the word “outage” to 25022 from the mobile number associated with their PEC account. They can also report outages by calling 888-883-3379 or online at myPEC.com/outage.
