Champion boys win fifth straight basketball game

Things got a little rowdy in the stands during Tuesday’s boys basketball game between Boerne Champion and New Braunfels after a couple of Unicorn parents were ejected, but on the court, the Chargers were cool and collected and took care of business.

Champion didn’t let what was going on in the stands affect their game as they went on to defeat the Unicorns, 49-45. The Chargers improved to 8-4 in district and are 21-9 overall. They were at Wagner Friday and host Kerrville Tivy on Tuesday. After that, Champion has Veterans Memorial and Smithson Valley left on the schedule.

Champion has won five in a row in 26-5A to help its playoff chances. They are sitting in third place at 8-4, behind Veterans Memorial (11-2) and New Braunfels (9-4). The Chargers are ahead of Tivy (6-6), Pieper (6-7), Wagner (5-7) and Boerne High (4-8).

Travis Clark had a strong game for the Chargers and led the team with 14 points, while Gavin Peck finished with 11. Reid Reddy added 8 points, Nikolas Georgelos tallied 6, William Kliesing hit for 4, Jayden Davis scored 3 after hitting a 3, Kristopher Lauderdale had 1 and Gaege Hankins made a free throw.
