'Due process’ due for all
Editor, Our system of government is based on the Constitution. The actions of ICE, with encouragement from President Trump and his administration, are slowly trying to dismantle the freedom and justice system that has served us for the past 250 years in order to form an autocratic system of government.
The Constitution states that every “person” — not black, white, brown or Asian; not male or female, gay or straight, immigrant- legal or non-legal — is entitled to due process of law.
Take this safeguard away and thus begins the erosion of the very foundation of our Constitution.
When ICE breaks into someone’s home or car without a signed legal warrant, they are violating the very basic form of due process.
ICE knows who the people are that are here illegally, have the tools to identify them and know the court system to obtain warrants. But instead, they chose fear and aggression.
ICE needs to be reined in; I didn’t say abolished, but they need to act in a lawful transparent manner. They also need to show some compassion.
If one class of persons is deemed not to have due process; then who’s next: You?
