The Boerne Champion softball team split its last two games – district and non-district contests – as they continue their 2026 season.
Champion lost to Antonian last Tuesday but bounced back to win a district game over Alamo Heights on Friday.
The Chargers, 7-3 overall and 2-1 in district, played Boerne High on Tuesday and will visit Pieper on Friday.
Vs. Alamo Heights
Champion was up 3-2 and then the fireworks started for both teams in the fifth frame. The Mules plated 6 runs and pulled ahead 8-3, but the Chargers answered with 9 runs for the 12-8 advantage by the time the inning was over.
Three Champion errors, 3 Mules singles, a walk and a fielder’s choice gave the Mules their 6 runs.
The Chargers fired back in the bottom half of the inning with 6 singles, a walk and an error, but the biggest blow came from the bat of Mylie Parker, who tripled and then scored to cut into the lead.
Champion tacked on 6 more runs in the inning for the 12-8 lead, but the Chargers weren’t done and plated 4 more runs during its next at bat.
A double by Tatum Cruz, two walks, a single, a Mules error, a fielder’s choice and a sac fly helped Champion score 4 more runs in the sixth to double up Alamo Heights, 16-8, and the lead held from there.
Besides her triple, Parker also homered and singled, drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Cruz doubled, scored once and picked up 2 RBI, Teagan Rogers singled, collected 3 RBI and scored 3 runs, Torin Tucker singled, took 3 walks and scored twice, Brylyn Thornburgh homered in the first and also singled, scored twice and picked up an RBI, Anna Hurst scored 2 runs, Reese Rogers hit 2 singles and scored twice and McKenzie Wilson hit 2 singles and scored 2 runs.
Parker went 4.1 innings in the circle and scattered 4 hits and struck out 7, while Hurst closed it out and picked up the win after she yielded a hit, no walks and struck out 1.
Vs. Antonian
Boerne Champion picked up a non-district softball game last Tuesday and lost in a shootout to Antonian in extra innings.
The Lady Apaches took Tuesday’s contest in S.A. that included 26 hits and 23 runs and went nine innings before Antonian won it with a walk-off fielder’s choice, 12-11.
The Lady Chargers were up on Tuesday, 5-1, but an 8-run sixth inning flipped the scoreboard for Antonian and put them on top, 9-5.
Champion rallied and managed to tie it at 9-9 in the top of the seventh with 4 runs to send it to extras. Brylyn Thornburgh had the big hit in the inning with a 3-run homer to knot it up.
After that, both teams scored 2 runs in the eighth to make it 11-11 and sent it to the ninth.
After the Chargers didn’t score in the top of the frame, Antonian’s leadoff batter tripled to start the frame and put Champion in a bad spot. The next Apaches’ batter hit an infield grounder that allowed the runner from third to score to end it.
Thornburg finished with the homer, single and 3 RBI, Torin Tucker smacked 2 doubles and a single, took 2 walks and scored 3 runs, Molly Baxter hit 2 singles and scored twice, while Cora Cude, Mylie Parker and Aidan Kavanagh all drove in 2 runs each.
Parker went 5.1 innings in the circle and gave up 8 hits, 7 runs and fanned 3, while Teagan Rogers finished out the game and scattered 7 hits and yielded 5 runs with one strikeout.
