Greyhounds battle Mules in district soccer

With two games left in the regular season, both the Boerne High boys and girls soccer teams stand at 7-5-2 in district play after Tuesday’s matches against Alamo Heights.

The Greyhounds have two matches left in 26-5A and both are on the bubble and need to finish strong against Pieper and New Braunfels this coming week if they are going to finish in the top four to close out the regular season.

Varsity Boys

A beat-up Boerne boys team fell to the Mules at BISD Stadium, 3-2. The Greyhounds have dropped three straight in 26-5A as they battle through some key injuries.

BHS is 7-5-2 in district (9-6-2 overall) and has the two best teams left record-wise on the schedule, Pieper (11-0-3) and New Braunfels (10-1-2). The Hounds are off Friday and are at Pieper on Tuesday and host New Braunfels Friday.

Boerne is currently in third and needs to finish in the top four if they are going to make the playoffs. They are being chased by Champion (7-6) and Smithson Valley (6-5-2).

Kaden Teachout and Shae Gonzales both scored goals for Boerne in Tuesday’s match, while James Canavan finished with two assists.

Varsity Girls

Boerne and Alamo Heights battled to a 2-2 tie Tuesday in San Antonio to leave the Lady Hounds at 7-5-2 in district (117-2 overall).

The Lady Hounds are off Friday and will host Pieper on Tuesday before visiting New Braunfels on Friday to close out the regular season.

BHS is sitting in fourth heading into next week at 7-52, but Alamo Heights (6-4-3) and Champion (6-6-1) are hot on their heels for that last spot in 26-5A.

Smithson Valley (13-0), Pieper (10-2-2) and New Braunfels (8-3-2) are in the top three spots.

The Lady Hounds need to win both of their last two matches, or win and tie, and will also need some help from other teams if they are going to get in.

In Tuesday’s match, Peyton Tilley and Bella Pettet recorded Boerne’s two goals.
