Geneva School of Boerne sent both its soccer teams to this year’s TAPPS DIII state tournament, and both returned with medals after the girls finished second to pick up silver, while the boys tied for third and brought back bronze.
Varsity Girls
McKinney Christian Academy won its third straight state title after they defeated the Geneva School of Boerne girls Wednesday in Round Rock for the TAPPS DIII title.
The Mustangs tamed the Eagles 4-1 to complete the three-peat and never trailed in the contest.
Even in defeat, it was a strong showing by Geneva and Wednesday’s match was tied 1-1 late in the first half after a Peyton Eiland goal.
McKinney Christian fired back with two goals in the final seven minutes of the first half for the 3-1 lead at the break.
The Mustangs added one more goal in the second half for the 4-1 lead to complete the trifecta.
All-tournament selections for the Eagles include goalkeeper Catalina Lozada, outside defender Trinity Cloud, wing Emrey Taylor and center midfielder Mary Simpson.
Eagles coach Becky Doran said she was proud of those four for getting recognized at the state tournament but added that it was a total-team effort.
“We had many other players who contributed greatly to our success as a team this season, notably freshman forward Peyton Eiland, forward and leading goal scorer, freshman Ruby Sue Svendsen, forward and second leading goal scorer, as well as junior Kendall Selke who controlled the pace of all of our games with her calm consistency at center back,” she said. “There are lots of other names I could give you. Honestly, we had a complete team effort this season; all 27 of our players showed up in ways we needed at just the right moments. This team is incredibly fun to coach and a high character group of young ladies.”
Geneva finishes the year at 16-6-4 and beat district foe Schertz John Paul II in the state semis on Tuesday, 2-0.
Seniors are Trinity Cloud, Harper Deimund, Caroline Pickle, Mary Simpson. Siena Svendsen and Emrey Taylor.

British International played for the title Friday.
