There was a lot on the line for several of the soccer teams going into the final week of the regular season in District 26-5A.

Both Boerne High teams still had chances at the postseason when the week began, and at least one of them still had a chance going into Friday night when the Hounds closed out the regular season against New Braunfels.

The Lady Greyhounds defeated Pieper to stay in the mix on Tuesday, while the BHS boys suffered a loss and were eliminated from the postseason picture.

Varsity Girls

The Boerne High girls soccer team picked up a big win Tuesday night at Boerne ISD Stadium against Pieper and put itself in a position to earn a playoff spot.

BHS defeated the Lady Warriors, 3-1, before the match was called in the second half due to the weather.

The Lady Greyhounds improved to 8-5-2 in 26-5A and had to win Friday at New Braunfels. A loss or a tie by Boerne on Friday, coupled with the Alamo Heights win at Wagner on Thursday, would be enough to keep the Lady Hounds out of the playoff mix.

The Lady Hounds had a fast start on Tuesday and were leading 3-1 by halftime. The teams came out and played just over two minutes before they were removed from the field because of lightning strikes in the area. They waited for a bit and never resumed. Since they had started the second half, they went ahead and called it there.

Bella Pettet paced the team with a hat trick and scored all three of their goals. Molly Miller, Eliana Bove and Emma Edison tallied single assists in the match.

Varsity Boys

A beat-up Boerne boys team suffered a few more injuries Tuesday at Pieper and suffered a 6-1 loss.

Tuesday afternoon’s contest was 2-1 at halftime in favor of the Warriors, but two more injuries to BHS put them in a bind in the second half and they were outscored 4-0.

Brady Guerrero tallied the team’s only goal and Ramzy Handal had the assist.

The Hounds are 9-7-2 overall and 7-6-2 in district heading into Friday’s regular- season finale at home against New Braunfels.
