Greyhounds run rule Patriots in 26-5A baseball

Last Thursday’s baseball game between Boerne High and Veterans Memorial was moved to a field in San Antonio after rains made Greyhound Field unplayable, according to BHS head coach Geoff Curtain, who called it a “mud pit.”

It turns out the location didn’t matter for the heavily favored Greyhound team that had defeated the Patriots just a few days before.

Boerne won Thursday’s game 11-1 in five innings to sweep the Patriots after a 10-0 victory, also in five frames, on Tuesday. The Greyhounds are 12-6 overall and 4-1 in district.

BHS plays Smithson Valley this week. Boerne hosted the Rangers Tuesday and will play at SV on Friday.

The Hounds tallied runs in four of five innings and finished with 5 hits, while taking 10 walks. Boerne scored 3 in the first, 4 in the third, 3 in the fourth and one in the fifth to kick in the mercy rule.

Eli Srp went all five innings on the mound and picked up the win on 69 pitches. He scattered 3 hits, 2 walks and struck out 4, while not giving up an earned run.

BHS was led at the plate by Jackson Grimes who tripled, took 2 walks, picked up an RBI and scored 3 runs, while Colton Shaver hit 2 singles and scored 3 runs.

Asher Wren walked 4 times, pushed in 2 runs and scored twice, Jake Perez and Drake Kinneson both singled, while Kinneson and Ronnie Scarbrough drove in 2 runs apiece.
