Geneva School of Boerne opened its 2026 softball season Tuesday at home with a district game against Schertz John Paul II.
The Eagles finished with 12 hits and scored 4 runs in the third and added another in the fourth, but came up short against the Guardians, 15-5.
Geneva (0-1) visited Holy Cross Thursday. They’ll host the other JP II team in their district, this one from Corpus Christi, on Tuesday and host Lutheran on Wednesday.
JP II jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first but the Eagles answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the third and was up 4-3 for their first lead of the game. The Guardians retook the lead with 2 runs in the fourth, and it was 5-4, but Geneva tied it in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-5 heading to the fifth.
The Eagles were kept off the board the rest of the way, while JP II scored a run in the fifth and finished strong with 4 runs in the sixth and 5 in the seventh.
Geneva’s Carlyle Harden had a solid game at the plate and smacked a triple, double, two singles, picked up 2 RBI and scored twice. Gracyn Miller also tripled and brought in a run.
Lila Fleming hit 2 singles, drove in a run and scored once, Carolyn Lutz finished with 2 singles and an RBI, Megan Egli slapped out 2 singles and Kendall Sehlke singled and scored.
Fleming threw all seven innings and struck out nine batters on 155 pitches.
