It was during Geneva’s football game with Holy Cross last fall that Rosenstiel noticed that the Knights were using an earpiece to allow communication between a coach and a player on the field during the contest, which is illegal according to TAPPS rules.
Rosenstiel became suspicious while watching Holy Cross game film and noticed they were doing it during their game in Boerne on Oct. 3. He informed game officials and the contest was stopped for about 15 minutes near halftime, and the earpiece was eventually removed.
Afterwards, Rosenstiel reported the incident to their governing body, and after an investigation, TAPPS ruled that the Knights had to forfeit five of their first six wins and were placed on probation through June 30, 2027.
Rosenstiel said he has no regrets about turning them in.
“I just wish that none of us were in that situation. We both had to deal with it the whole year,” he said. “Hopefully, we’ll get past it. It was the right thing to do, and I’d do it again.”
