Bob Rosenstiel is leaving Geneva School of Boerne after one season as the school’s head football coach.
Rosenstiel accepted an offer with TAPPS 6A Austin St. Michael’s to become the school’s head football coach. His last day at Geneva was March 20 and he’ll start at St. Michael’s on March 23.
The former NFL and XFL player said the hardest part about changing jobs is leaving the Geneva students behind.
“I have some good relationships with the middle schoolers, that was difficult telling them because kids that age don’t hide their emotions,” he said. “It’s been a great four years here because the kids are special. It’s hard saying goodbye to them.”
Rosenstiel started at Geneva as an assistant coach in June of 2022 and fell in love with Boerne. In fact, he’s still going to live in town and commute to Austin, at least for now, because he believes the place where he lives with his family is his “forever home.”
“It’s 75 miles, so it’s a good 80- or 90-minute drive,” he said. “It’s always an option to move, but I’ll do it for a while and if it becomes unmanageable, we’ll see. Maybe I can find a way to work while I’m driving.”
Rosenstiel became the Geneva head coach last spring and led the Eagles to a 10-3 record in 2025. They won the regional title and played in the TAPPS state semifinals game before losing to eventual state champions Lubbock Christian. He said winning the regional championship game is probably his best football memory.
“Being able to hoist the regional championship trophy over our heads was special,” he said.
St. Michael’s is coming off a 5-6 season in 2025. The Warriors made the playoffs after finishing third in their district with a 3-3 mark. They were defeated by Legacy Christian Academy in the opening round of the playoffs.
While the St. Michael’s program was down last year, Rosenstiel doesn’t believe he’s heading to a program that needs rebuilding.
“I wouldn’t go that far; they just need re-energizing and focusing on the task at hand,” he said.
